Today was "get the motorcycle packed" day. Went to shipping company in the morning for paperwork and moved to the Oasis - where all motorcycle adventurers end up when in Ulaanbaatar.
Crating took place at the Oasis ... there is a guy there that does this for a living for all these crazy people ... fitting the bike into as small a box as possible was a challenge ... had to take off all kinds of things - front wheel, handlebars, panniers, windshield, and miscellaneous parts here and there.
The interesting part was going to the Black Market to buy some ratchet straps ... this is the largest open air, chaotic, muddy market I have ever seen. The car section had everything you may need for a car ... being sold out of cargo shipping containers ... engines, suspensions, transmissions.
The crate was picked up at 6pm ...
Alexandra - yes, it was sad to put our "esteemed steed" in a dark box and seeing it go ... our noble ride took us through thick and thin ... bad roads ... bad gas ... water crossings ... sun, rain, and hail ... never complaining. It just started and ran ... every time. I think I am getting emotional : )
Tomorrow, paperwork and perhaps visit the massive Genghis Kahn statue in the national park outside Ulaanbaatar.
